The Art Institute of Philadelphia Library currently subscribes to several indexed databases. Below are descriptions and login information for each. For help accessing or using any of them, call, email or visits the Library.

ONLINE RESOURCES


The AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive is an electronic library containing the Associated Press' current year's photo report and thousands of images from their vast negative and print library dating back to the 1840. Photographs are at a resolutions of 72dpi, and can be downloaded and used for any educational (not commercial) use. Additional access to graphics, audio and text files.

CAMIO® — OCLC's Catalog of Art Museum Images Online — is a growing online collection documenting works of art from around the world, representing the collections of prominent museums. CAMIO highlights the creative output of cultures around the world, from prehistoric to contemporary times, and covering the complete range of expressive forms.

CAMIO is licensed for use by students, faculty, and researchers at subscribing institutions. Works of art may be used for educational and research purposes during the term of the subscription, if they are properly credited. Images may not be published or otherwise distributed.

The Chronicle of Higher Education is a weekly newspaper, with a Web site updated daily, reporting on all aspects of higher education and intellectual life. The Chronicle is searchable from 1989 to the current issue, and full-text issues from 1995 to the current can be browsed.

Bigchalk Elibrary is a comprehensive general reference database containing full-text newspapers, magazines, national and international news wires; complete works of literature; photo, image and map collections; television, radio and government transcripts; book, movie and software reviews. It also provides access to an encyclopedia, dictionary, thesaurus, almanac, and fact books.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, Britannica Student Encyclopedia and the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use Encyclopedia Britannica Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 300,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.

This is a database of over 500,000 royalty-free stock photography images. You are limited to 50 hi-res image downloads per quarter from our “Subscription Only” selection. Before accessing Getty, you MUST have a signed license agreement on file in the AIPH Library. The password is NOT on the student site but must be obtained at the library in person.

Grove's Dictionary of Art Online is a comprehensive reference resource on all aspects of the visual arts from prehistory to today. Now includes: Grove Art Online, The Oxford Companion to Western Art, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms.

MagillOnLiterature Plus, produced by Salem Press, combines MagillOnLiterature and MagillOnAuthors. This database includes all the literary works, reviewed critical analyses and brief plot summaries that are included in MagillOnLiterature, as well as all the biographies and author essays included in MagillOnAuthors.

Newsbank provides access to the Philadelphia Inquirer from 1981 to the present and The New York Times from 2000 to the present. Users are able to view complete, full-text content of local and regional news.

This is a fashion forecasting service with an amazing amount of information on colors, styles, fabrics, runways, designers, gathered from around the world. There is also career information, and a section of student portfolios.

Students need to set up individual accounts by registering with the current valid PIN number. The PIN number will change every six months. The PIN number can be picked up at the library, or from the list of library database passwords on the AIPH student website. To register, go to the "PIN update" icon on the left-hand side of the homepage. Enter the PIN and click submit, then fill out the form. You'll be sent your own username and password to use through the "log on" icon on the homepage. It may take up to four days to receive your account.



The fashion industry bible! At their home page, go to subscriber log in and use our user name and password. You'll have access to the full text, with images, of over 75,000 articles searchable by keyword and date. Our subscription is limited to 10 simultaneous users. If you cannot log in immediately, please try again later!
